Our California Page
We enjoy hearing from classrooms all over the United States! We've created this California page to tell you a little bit about our state, California.
We live in the cities La Crescenta and Glendale. A city is part of a county. Our county is Los Angeles. A county is part of a state. Our state is California. California is a part of our country, the United States of America (U.S.A.). The U.S.A. is part of the world and the world is part of the universe!
About California
The state capital of California is Sacramento.Major industries in California are agriculture, oil, mining, entertainment, and tourism.California borders the Pacific Ocean. The State Nickname of California is "The Golden State". Our state song is titled "I Love You, California" which is what you are listening to right now!
Our State Flag
The California state flag was adopted in 1911. It pictures a grizzly bear and a star. There is a red stripe at the bottom of the flag.
Our State Bird
The California Valley Quail is our state bird.
Our State Flower
Our state flower is the California Poppy.
Our State Tree
The California state tree is the Redwood. The Redwood is the tallest tree. They can grow as tall as 370 feet and can live over a thousand years!
